On 7 May, the Air League of Monaco welcomed Matt Jones, Managing Director of Spitfires, as a guest speaker at the Stelios Foundation Conference Hall Monaco.
Air League of Monaco members heard about the remarkable “Silver Spitfire – The Longest Flight” expedition, during which Matt flew a restored Spitfire around the world in just four months, covering over 43,000 miles and visiting more than 30 countries.
He shared stunning photographs of the aircraft soaring over iconic landscapes and spoke about the many challenges the team faced, including extreme weather and remote airstrips.
Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou reminded us that only about half of the Spitfires built survived World War II. Rather than remaining in museums, Spitfires.com aims to give people the chance to fly these historic planes and experience them firsthand.
The talk also paid tribute to the pilots who originally flew the Spitfire, celebrating their courage and skill, and highlighted how the expedition honors their legacy.
Through the Silver Spitfire, Matt Jones inspired our members with a sense of adventure and a lasting love for aviation.
