In Memoriam Christopher Foyle

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Christopher Foyle, OBE, President and founder of the Air League of Monaco, after a long illness. Our sympathy and condolences go out to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

When Christopher re-located to the South of France and wanted to bring a part of the Air League of the UK (of which he had been Chairman) with him, Prince Philip (then Patron) said that he didn’t think he’d find much flying in Monaco! He was to be proved wrong and later praised the Monaco Association for the energy and enthusiasm of it’s members.

Indeed, with the generous help and support of Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou (easyJet in its early years during the 90’s was provided AOC aviation services by Air Foyle); Thierry Boutsen of Boutsen Aviation; François Gautier of Blueberry Aviation and other Patrons and members, – latterly the Patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco, – through dogged perseverance, good-natured bonhomie and sheer hard work, the Air League of Monaco has grown into an Association with around 400 members, over half of them juniors!

The Association will continue to function and grow to enable members to come together to celebrate all things aeronautical and to help young people passionate about aviation to follow their dreams and succeed. The Committee will re-convene in the near future to decide on the successor arrangements and in the meantime all inquiries about Air League Monaco should be addressed to Susan Webb
